February Favorites: My Hero Academia, Under the Green Light, and more!

In the past week, I had been tagged in some weekly/monthly favorite posts and have been completely honored. I usually just write to write and don’t think of who will be seeing what I write. So to have people find it and enjoy it, then mention it elsewhere means the absolute world to me. Below are the places I’ve been mentioned in this month:

Phoenix Talks Pop Culture Japan: February Monthly Favorites 2023

Manga Bookshelf: The Manga Review: Brush Up Your Shakespeare

Manga Bookshelf: The Manga Review: In Your Ear

These round-ups have also inspired me to share my monthly favorites. From episodes, manga, and content from my favorite creators, I figured I would put together this quick little post to highlight these things!

Favorite Anime Episodes

The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague – The Fox Girl and the Phoenix Boy

The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Collegue – Komori and Saejime

You already know how I feel about this anime. That being said, my favorite episode this month was definitely the one focusing on Komori and Saejime! That is MY SHIP! It is possibly my favorite ship this season. Of course, I love Fuyutsuki and Himoru, but these other two are tugging at my heart.

My Hero Academia – Izuku Midoriya and Tomura Shigaraki

Let me say this first: I AM ANIME ONLY! Okay, thanks.

My Hero Academia this season has been INTENSE. I have cried every single episode. The way the show has dramatically turned into this super dark and grim story right now is completely fucking me up. But I LOVE IT! A lot of the hard-hitting episodes this season premiered in January, but with every episode, it has only been getting better.

!!Warning Spoilers Below!!

I really enjoyed this episode because I love anytime the previous wielders of AFO make an appearance. I think Deku is so worthy of this quirk and I love to see how much he has grown, as it is evident in his conversations with the previous weilders. We know now that at the end of the episode, he leaves the UA to protect everyone and it is clear this decision wasn’t taken lightly. I’m so hurt for Deku (and Uravitity, let’s be real) and I wish it was not this way. But I understand his reasonings, and ultimately, he is the only one who can do this.

I wasn’t ready emotionally to see this new Deku era, but I am sitting at the edge of my seat, waiting to see what will happen next. You all know how much I love Deku and how he is one of my favorite MCs of all time. He’s growing up and it hurts me to see it, but I’m so proud of him.

Tomo-Chan Is A Girl: Birthday Present / Burn Up! The Ball Sports Tournament

Misuzu and Carol from Tomo Chan is a Girl staring at Tomo-chan

Tomo-Chan Is a Girl is probably the funniest anime to me this season. While the “possible” romance between Jun and Tomo is aighttttttt, I’m really here for Misuzu and Carol. They are my favorite characters and I tune in just to see what happens next with them. In this episode, the volleyball tournament had me in SHAMBILES (pronounced Sham-bee-lés!) I was laughing so hard I was crying all while my baby looked at me like I was insane.

Favorite Manga / Manhwas / Webtoons

SEND HELP Y’ALL! I have FINALLY gotten into colored manhwas / webtoons and have been falling APART. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same again! It has been so so good and I am so lucky I waited so long to give them a chance because I have so much to catch up on.

In this section, I’m only going to list the titles because I will be doing longer form content on these titles individually in the future:

  • Under The Green Light
  • Shutline
  • Wet Sand
  • The Dangerous Convenience Store

If you want to talk to me about any of these titles, please let me know because I have all the thoughts and feels.

Favorite Content

One thing about the animanga creators: you will always have something to consume and enjoy. I love to be in a community with people who are so talented and inspire me to keep creating dope things. Here are some of my favorite things from this month:

I could go on forever but I’ll think I’ll cap it here for now. Be sure to check out some of my own posts below!

REVIEW: MAO Episode 2 – Spider Lady

Episode two of MAO set the tone for what we might expect this season. It feels like each episode or few episodes will be “monster of the week” while slowly working to uncover the mystery behind Mao and Nanoka. This is music to my ears because I love this type of story. Mao Sensei on…
