When a boy who is a loner learns the most popular girl is a little quirky and strange, he can’t help but be drawn to her. His heart isn’t ready for the fact that this beautiful and quirky girl may be interested in him too…
About The Dangers in My Heart: The Movie
The Dangers in My Heart is an anime adaptation of the manga by Norio Sakurai. The movie is a compilation of moments from season one and season two of the anime, and includes some new animation. Hiroaki Akagi (The Dangers in My Heart Season 2) is the chief director and Dali Chen is the director.
The series follows Kyoutarou Ichikawa, a gloomy and anti-social student who is hiding a soft and insecure side. When he discovers the beautiful and popular student, Anna Yamada, has a secret side to her too, the two inevitably grow closer. The movie pieces together all the important developments between Ichikawa and Yamada that lead to them becoming friends and falling for each other.
My Thoughts
As someone who has not watched the anime series, I was instantly charmed by this story. Ichikawa is a little weirdo, but being a loner for a long time has really done a number on his self-esteem. So much so that when it’s painfully obvious Yamada likes him and is trying to win him over, he attempts to convince himself he is misreading her actions. As someone who struggles with anxiety, this was all too relatable. When your brain is against you, it’s hard to look at the concrete evidence that it may be wrong. I appreciate that despite his anxiety trying to steer him away from Yamada, Ichikawa often let’s himself be swayed by her and follows her lead.
Yamada was absolutely the cutest and best girl, ever. Even though she’s this beautiful girl who models and acts, she’s really sweet and down to Earth. As we see in the movie, she’s so smitten with Ichikawa, and let’s that move her. I loved seeing how brave she was and earnest with Ichikawa, even when he wasn’t getting the hint. I think this movie does a great job at showing why the two of them just work for each other.
If you’re completely new to this series, I think this movie is a great introduction. I know compilation movies can be hit or miss depending on the audience, but The Dangers in My Heart: The Movie finds the perfect balance of introducing new viewers to this story, and having something new for fans of the anime. If you’ve watch the anime, this edit condenses the story to the most lovey parts and adds some fun new edits to fan favorite moments. The best part is if you come away from the movie wanting more, you have two complete seasons to look forward to!
