Day 12 of #MarchMangaMadness: Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku by Fujita and published by Kodansha.
I have a YouTube video about this series, specifically the manga, so I won’t dive too into it here. As any grown Otaku, what’s not to love about this series? 20-somethings working in a corporate setting who love Yaoi, cosplay, manga, video games, and anime? Sign me up!
I first saw Wotakoi the anime in 2020 and felt SO SEEN. I mean Narumi and Hirotaka are almost me and bae, bar for bar!
I am disappointed in how towards the middle and end of the series, Narumi and Hirotaka completely stop developing and more of the focus is placed on the second couple. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Hanako and Kabakura, I wish both couples developed equally. I truly feel like the mangaka completely abandoned all their progress and at the end was like “oh yeah, you guys are supposed to be the main ones, right? Oops here’s a cute end chapter.” The disappointment is what has stopped me from doing my follow-up video on the series now that it’s over but it’s still on the list.
