Wish: March Manga Madness Day 2

photo of Wish by CLAMP

Many of you know that I am a CLAMP manga collector. In fact, my CLAMP collection is about 90% complete! CLAMP manga is the first manga I’ve ever bought and today’s entry of Wish is possibly some of the manga I’ve had the longest in my collection. My eBay account doesn’t go back further than three years, but I know I bought these in 2010.

The plot of Wish isn’t too revolutionary. An angel Kohaku is rescued from a tree by a human named Shuichiro Kudo. They want to replay him, but Shuichiro has such a good life, he can’t think of a wish for Kohaku to grant. Kohaku stays by his side waiting for a Shuichiro to think of something.

I won’t get too in-depth about the manga here because it is next on my CLAMP reread series so I’ll save all the detailed analysis for that. But I will point out that in the version I have, the characters were assigned genders based on their looks, however, most angels and devils are genderless. In the Darkhouse reprint in 2019, the genders were removed and they avoid using pronounces or used “they.

  1. I love this series! It’s one of the few manga series that Clamp completed and it really does have a sweet ending. I also love the character designs, so pretty!
