6 Ongoing Romance Manhwa I’m Reading On Manta

I’m back with another list of romance manhwa for the girlies (gender neutral) to enjoy! As a subscriber of the digital comic platform Manta, I am consistently on the app looking for new stories to check out. Manta has a great catalog of completed and ongoing stories, so there is always something new to read.

I always tell myself I’m not going to read an ongoing story because I am very impatient. And yet, I always find myself reading a story and waiting desperately for the next chapter. This list contains a mix of newer Manta additions with some older titles that are still ongoing, so there’s a perfect combination of both worlds.

Keeping My Boss On A Tight Leash

18 episodes and counting, updates every Tuesday

In Keeping My Boss On a Tight Leash, office worker Nahee is going through it. She’s stuck working overtime to pay her manipulative aunt and is overall unhappy with life. One night, she accidentally discovers her company’s CEO is a shapeshifter. He mistakenly imprints on her and turns her world upside down.

Initially, I was apprehensive about checking this story out. I am not someone who enjoys a love triangle and that is exactly the vibes the cover image gives off. However, I’m glad I gave it a chance because it is quite charming. Nahee is relatable and there are a lot of funny moments.

No Moral by SHAMPOO

69 episodes and counting, updates every 4th, 14th, and 24th

In No Moral, Yunshin Do is a newbie lawyer who gets recruited to a powerhouse law firm, to work under Seheon Kang. Seheon is cold, aloof, and often comes across as a bully. However, underneath his cold exterior lies something else, and Yunshin is desperate to find out.

It took me a bit to get into No Moral because it is a technical story and a slow-burn manhwa romance. There is a lot of setup in the first season, which makes the romance so much sweeter when it arrives. There is also a lot of mystery surrounding Yunshin’s sister and what he is supposed to be getting out of working under Seheon Kang.

Dealing with Demons

9 episodes and counting, updates every Wednesday

No one is more down on their luck than Dokyung, the star of Dealing with Demons. Having made a contract with a demon who stole all her good fortune, she is on the verge of ending it all. In comes Hwamyung, the Demon of Disillusionment. It seems they can both benefit from partnering up.

It’s still early in this story, but I was sold the minute I laid eyes on Hwamyung! I feel like this is going to be one where someone falls first and the other falls harder! Especially because Dokyung is very indifferent and I love it when a man is chasing an indifferent woman.

Salt Friend by JingJian

76 episodes and counting, updates every 18th

A misunderstood delinquent and the top student? Another trope romance manhwa I am always down for. Salt Friend is a story about two students, Thomas and Zachary, who couldn’t be any more different. When a misunderstanding brings them together, the two start slowly letting down their walls and growing closer.

My only complaint about Salt Friend is that the translation gave the characters Americanized names, which I hate. After I was able to look past that, I got into this story and can appreciate it for what it is. It is also a Chinese comic, or manhua, so it’s a slower-paced romance with more subtle nods toward the growing relationship between the two.

Mission: Save the Hunter by HYEON

24 episodes and counting, updates every 2nd, 12th, and 22nd

Mission: Save the Hunter combines the popular dungeon genre with a story of regret and moving forward. Chaeyoon is an ex-hunter who worked in one of the worst dungeons in history and is one of the only remaining survivors. He lives under the radar, trying to fulfill the last wishes of his fallen comrades before he can end his own life.

While the story is tagged BL and First Love, I haven’t gotten to that just after 20-something episodes. This lets me know the slow burn will be so real. However, the characters seem so different, I can’t imagine how they get together but I’m excited for the journey.

  1. Oo! A lot of these look really good! I definitely want to try out Salt Friend and Dealing with Demons, they look like just the kind of stories I like! Hmm, I’m kind of wondering about the translation of Salt Friends. Sometimes, if the writer is from Hong Kong they will give the characters Western style names. So maybe the names weren’t changed for the translations? I don’t know if that’s the case here, but I’ve seen that in other manhua from Hong Kong writers.
