High school aged girl has to live in a house with a boy who happens to be the protector of the house and has an alternate form with white hair and animal ears? Not to mention, the house also has other guys? At first glance, The Demon Prince of Momochi house seems like another version of Kamisama Kiss, but the stories are very different. This Winter 2024 anime was at the top of my watch list this past season and I loved it. The Demon Prince of Momochi houses mixes Japanese lore and shojo romance tropes in a different way.
The following is the outline of the script I used to record:
Intro:
- I had heard about the Demon Prince manga but when I learned that there was an anime coming soon, I waited for the anime to watch it. This was one I watched week to week, and left a few episodes at the end to binge watch. As I always do, I read the manga in its entirety right after finishing the anime and decided to do a video comparing the two. This video will be free of manga spoilers.

Anime Only Feelings
The Demon Prince of Momochi house was one of my favorite anime during the 2024 winter season. Each episode was intriguing and left enough in the air to question what would be happening next. The backstories on the characters felt satisfying but some moments did feel “incomplete” at times. Some moments felt as if they were resolved too quickly or there were many questions left unanswered.
The anime was enjoyable and led me to reading the manga because I wanted to experience it again and wanted to know more.
Manga Questions Answered
- Is it a 1-1 adaptation?
No. While there isn’t a lot of non-cannon added to the anime, they did change the order of some events and skipped chapters. The non-canon part is mostly adding who Himari meets the teacher in the beginning of the anime. Some events in the manga also go on a little longer.
- How much of the manga did the anime cover?
The anime covers about 8-9 volumes due to cutting some things about and bringing in later chapters.
- Is the anime worth it as a stand alone?
Yes. I think the anime is really enjoyable. Its a good supernatural anime that has the early 2000s shojo feels.
- Feelings about the anime after reading the manga?
I wish it was adapted bar for bar but I completely understand why certain things were changed or ommited.
- Would a season 2 be possible?
Yes! there’s still a lot of story left to be told and i feel like s1 ended ambiguously enough that you can have a second season.
Conclusion
- The Demon Prince of Momochi house won’t be topping any of my favorite lists for manga or anime but its still a highly enjoyable story. If you’re going to read the manga, I highly recommend reading it from the beginning to not miss any of the story.
- The ending of story is really unexpected and caught me off guard. There is also a sequel to the manga but it has not yet been licensed in the US.
I liked the anime, but I feel like the manga was a little bit better. It might be because I read the manga first, so when I watched the anime I was comparing it to the manga version. I really loved the artwork in the manga, the characters looked so pretty!
