REVIEW: Yano-kun’s Ordinary Days Episode 3 – So Cool

Time for episode 3 of Yano-kun’s Ordinary Days with my favorite ship of the season, Yano and Kiyoko! I can’t believe how fast the episodes go. 23 minutes feel like 5 when you’re watching like a spectator rooting for your favorite athlete to make a goal.

Dodging for Love

At the beginning of episode 3, the class is playing dodgeball in PE class. Despite Kiyoko’s wishes, she and Yano end up on opposing teams. She’s supposed to be focused on her team, but all she can do is worry about Yano. To everyone’s surprise, Yano is athletic and avoids being hurt. (Except for that bit at the end, oops!)

Something that can be picked up in the background is that there is a classmate, Hashiba, who is noticing Kiyoko blushing during their interactions. Little does he know, she’s blushing because she’s thinking about Yano (ahhh!) I could guess from the OP that he’s going to end up having a crush on Kiyoko. He is a cutie, though, so I think he’s a good fit for a side ship. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens there.

Like Father Like Son

In the second half of the episode, Kiyoko inadvertently runs into a man getting hurt on her way home. After walking him to his house, she learns he is Yano’s dad, and they invite her in for tea. While Kiyoko is freaking out about being in her crush’s house, she can’t help but think about whether Yano is intentionally ignoring the fact that she likes him. To her, she’s being pretty obvious about it. Luckily, Yano’s dad notices and lets Kiyoko know that Yano is really guarded and may not have noticed her feelings.

I thought this second half was so cute! First of all, Yano’s dad is adorable, and it’s funny that he is just as clumsy as Yano. The way their house is basically toddler-proof is hilarious. Secondly, I like the perspective offered by Yano’s dad. He knows his son and can understand why his son is guarded. But the dad seems to like Kiyoko and wants them to continue to be friends.

Kiyoko is that Girl

Something I love about Kiyoko is how direct she is about her crush. Although she hasn’t confessed to Yano yet, she knows she’s not hiding it, and she’s hopeful that he will notice. There’s just something so refreshing about her and how she handles everything.

I also loved that when she was at Yano’s house, she thought of Mei when she didn’t know what to do. Best friends for real! I love Mei and Kiyoko’s friendship, and I hope we get to see more of it soon.

See you back here next week!
