Another week, another episode of Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! for me to gush about. Episode three gives us an inside look at Melphie’s process for preparing monster meat, and we learn more about her work. Of course, there are many cute moments between Melphie and Aristide.
Preparing the Meat
In this episode, we get a first-hand look at how Melphie processes monster meat. Luckily, she had Aristide’s men do a lot of the dirty work. This involved harvesting the fur, claws, and horns. I loved that this scene was depicted with everyone in chibi form. The men looked so adorable going to town on the monster. Then, Aristide helped Melphie remove the magic from the monster.
Afterward, they were able to grill the meat to eat! I’m sorry, I mean test for poison. My favorite part so far about Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! is how much Melphie and Aristide love meat. They are depicted as such foodies, and it’s so fun to watch them bond over food. Also, add in Chaos and the army dudes wanting the food too, and this scene was gold. As a lover of grilled meat, I could not blame any of them.
Let’s Get to Know Each Other
In my review of episode one, I mentioned that I could not tell if this anime was going to be about them slaying different monsters and cooking them, or if there was a deeper plot. Three episodes in, and I feel like it may be both. There was a lot of emphasis on the entire process of the monster and the cooking of the meat. But then, the last 8 or so minutes of the episode focus on Melphie and Aristide discussing Melphie’s reputation.
Melphie explains to Aristide her mother’s work and why her community views it so negatively. Aristide reminds Melphie that he is there to propose to her and wants to learn more about her. He also wants to know how she gained the reputation of the Voracious Villainess. I feel like this part of the story is important too, but it’s tonally such a shift from the cute “let’s eat monsters” part. I’m curious about what the focus will shift to as the episodes go on.
This episode had so many cute moments between Melphie and Aristide. Even though Aristide is moving quickly to secure Melphie as with wife, he is genuinely enthralled with her. Melphie too likes Aristide, but you can tell that she is guarded because of her reputation and her past. I’m looking forward to see how they work through this together.
