About Tease Me Harder
Tease Me Harder: A Sweet and Kinky Romance is a manga series by Fumika Minami. It is published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment. In it, we meet the adorable Yuka who has been with her boyfriend, Mahiro, for 6 months. They are taking things slow as they are getting to know each other. The thing is, Yuka is hiding a massive secret from Mahiro. She is a masochist and desperately wants Mahiro to dominate her. When an accidental spicy pic reveals Yuka’s secret to Mahiro, she is convinced the relationship is over. Much to her surprise, Mahiro decides he’s willing learn everything there is about BDSM to become the sadist Yuka is fantasizing about.
My Thoughts
I went into Tease Me Harder with an open mind and was still surprised. I was not expecting this story to be as sweet and tender as it is. Yuka has felt different for as long as she can remember. She carries so much shame regarding her interest, to the point that when she accidentally sends Mahiro that selfie, she thinks its over for them. Instead, Mahiro embraces this side of Yuka and vows to become “a good sadist” for Yuka.
From then on, the story really depicts the work it takes to safely pursue a masochist/sadist dynamic in a relationship. Mahiro and Yuka start slow, with some handcuffs then graduating to some rope bondage and stepping, and spanking. There are safe words, check-ins, and speaking frankly about what Yuka wants.
The story also does a great job of portraying Mahiro’s point of view. He is head over heels for Yuka, and wants to be with her no matter what. However, getting into BDSM before they’ve even had sex is a big deal. Mahiro also struggles with his comfort level regarding some of the play. He doesn’t want to hurt Yuka but he does want to satisfy her. We can see how this will be something Mahiro will struggle with moving forward. However, both Mahiro and Yuka leading with vulnerability will do wonders for them.
I’ll be honest: I judged this story way too quickly. I thought it would be more smut than plot, which I have zero issue with (hello, it’s me.) Instead, I was confronted with an incredibly tender portrayal of a couple’s journey in sexual pleasure and discovery. Two people who love each other very much, willing to explore something new, taboo, and sexy. No judgements, no more shame. With kinks being taboo, it’s not always easy to find representation that is honest and well done without leaning into instructional vs pornographic. Tease Me Harder finds a great balance of portraying something a bit scary as approachable and romantic.
