About Give Me a Hug, Mr. Frog!
Give Me a Hug, Mr. Frog! is a boys’ love manga by Enhi, published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment. Takanashi is the student council president everyone wants: thoughtful, charming, and cute. But no one knows that the popular guy is yearning for men! He feels so lost and alone, until he comes across the frog mascot from a milk tea shop. He sees that the body under the frog costume is lean and fit, and suddenly he wants to feel it! When he realizes he can just ask the mascot for a hug, he quickly becomes obsessed. The hugs are so healing! But when Takanashi learns the guy in the mascot costume is his classmate, Hiruma, can he keep getting hugs now that the secret is out?
My Thoughts
The premise of this story is straight out of a 90s rom-com and I love it! It’s so silly and fluffy, and that premise is exactly what makes it easy to get into the heart of the story. Takanashi is popular but as a result, no one really knows the real him. At first hugging Mr. Frog is like a release for him, a respite from the pressures of his public persona. Once realizes it’s a classmate, the intimacy they shared in hugs makes it easier for him to let his guard down, and get to know Hiruma. I mean, Hiruma already knows he’s out here hugging and accidentally groping a frog mascot, if that doesn’t scare him away, what will?
Sharing this silly secret allows for Hiruma and Takanashi to get to know each other, but they still have some personal hurdles to overcome together. Discovering they are classmates is only the beginning of their story, and we get to see them build a genuine relationship. I adore feel good stories like this where the stakes are low and you can just enjoy the tooth-aching sweetness that comes with two cuties falling in love. This story is perfect for when you need a fluffy little read.
