I’ve been playing Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth for the past week, and I’ve been obsessed. It’s been making me even more excited for each new episode of Digimon Beatbreak! The Digimon stories always have so much heart behind them, and this new episode of Digimon Beatbreak is the perfect showcase of that heart.
Butting Heads
In episode 4 of Digimon Beatbreak, Glowing Dawn picks up a new bounty for a digimon that’s wreaking havoc in the trucking sector. Kyo entrusts the mission to Reina, who’s excited to take charge. However, Tomoro is annoyed at having to participate, especially when he wants to only focus on his brother.
During their first attempt at capturing the digimon, Gekkomon and Tomoro aren’t in sync at all, due to Tomoro’s bad attitude. As a result, Reina and her digimon can’t get a hit on the digimon, and Reina ends up injured. Tomoro is beyond annoyed that Reina is pushing this “family” narrative and is being prickly overall.
What Family Means
Later on, we learn that Reina is big on family because she’s never had a family. Reina moved from Cleaner group to Cleaner group until she ended up at Glowing Dawn. Now, she views Glowing Dawn as her family and wants to make sure Tomoro is included. After learning this, Tomoro eases up on Reina and finally becomes a team player with Gekkomon.
This part of the story is a little cheesy, but it’s real. As Kyo reminds Reina, she’s been exactly where Tomoro’s been, with nowhere to go. As a result, she wants him to feel included and be a team player from the start. She doesn’t get why he’s being so mean and standoffish. He should be grateful he even has somewhere to go.
Tomoro is acting like a complete jerk. Even though he has been through a lot, in my opinion, he’s acting a bit ungrateful to Glowing Dawn. It’s understandable that he wants to do what he can in order to rescue his brother, but he needs the people who’ve taken him in and want him to be family.
This episode was tough to watch with Tomoro’s attitude towards Reina and the crew. However, no family is perfect, and growing pains are part of that. Tomoro has a long way to go, and moments like this, where the members of Glowing Dawn are offering him so much grace, prove why they need each other.
I’ll be here waiting for you next week!
Digimon Beatbreak is streaming on Crunchyroll, with new episodes on Sundays.
