Episode 6 of Yano-Kun’s Ordinary Days is hands down the funniest so far. From beginning to end, I was laughing out loud at how absurd some of the moments were. And because it was so funny, I was caught off guard by where the episode went.
The Influence of Friends
We start the episode with Kiyoko noticing that Yano is acting distant with her. She feels that he has a wall back up again, but little does she know, Yano is actually not sure how to act around her because he has realized his feelings! Later on, when Izumi and Mei are over at her house, Izumi comments that it’s obvious Kiyoko likes Yano, and she thinks Yano likes her back. Mei suggests acting like Izumi to get Yano’s attention.
While this is happening, Yano is with Hashiba and Tanaka at a convenience store. When Yano asks Hashiba what it’s like to be in love, Hashiba recommends that Yano read a shojo romance manga, the one he was buying for his sister. Hashiba ends up lending Yano all 20 volumes of Amika in Love, which he binges over the weekend. This ends up changing the course of Kiyoko and Yano’s friendship.
Fueled by Manga
Come Monday, both Yano and Kiyoko are different people. Kiyoko has decided to act a little more like Izumi, and changes her appearance a tiny bit. Both Yano and Hashiba take notice, but because Yano is seeing Kiyoko through “shojo manga” eyes, he is empowered. When both Mei and Izumi point out to Kiyoko that she’s acting a bit uncomfortable, she turns it down and returns to her regular self.
During class with his newfound understanding of his own feelings, he confesses to Kiyoko that he likes her! Anddddd I almost ascended to another plane of existence. Of course, Kiyoko is sure Yano didn’t mean it like that. But the next day at school, Yano makes it extra clear by saying that Kiyoko is his type and then asking her to eat lunch in front of everyone. When they finally have a chance to talk alone, Yano makes it clear he does like her romantically, and Kiyoko confesses she likes him too.
Through the Moon
This episode made me laugh and blush like never before. I love how bold Yano-kun became as a result of realizing his feelings for Kiyoko. I appreciated that he confessed almost immediately, and we didn’t need to wait for the end of the season for a mutual confession.
I also loved the involvement of friends in this episode. As a friendship girly, I loved Mei and Izumi wanting to help Kiyoko make progress with Yano. It was also great to see both Mei and Izumi bring Kiyoko back to reality when they noticed she wasn’t acting like her usual self. Great friends will help you and tell you the truth, even if it may hurt your feelings a bit.
Yano-kun and Hashiba’s interactions were also great this episode. Like the girls, Hashiba realizes that Yano also liked Kiyoko. And even though they’re technically rivals, Hashiba still wants to be Yano’s friend and help him. It was a bit bittersweet that he made his love declaration right in front of everyone, because Hashiba does like Kiyoko, so I’m sure he didn’t want to see his crush and rival basically make their love super public. However, I think Hashiba will prioritize being friends with both Yano and Kiyoko versus his feelings for Kiyoko. Also, I’m hoping maybe he will get a new love interest!
Ahhhh I am so excited for the next episode!
