Touched by Twilight is a boy’s love manga series by Yukiaki Uno, published in English by TOKYOPOP. The story centers on Shen Feng, a member of the Shen family. When his father is assassinated, the suspect is his old mentor and first love, Xiao Xing. Fifty years have passed since they last saw each other, and once reunited, there’s a lot of tension from unresolved issues lingering between them.
As Shen Feng and Xiao Xing start investigating, more mysteries come into view. Was this an inside job? Why would want the patriarch of the Shen family dead? And why would they want to frame Xiao Xing? The two must work together to uncover who truly assassinated the Shen patriarch while trying to navigate their complicated relationship.
My Thoughts
Where do I even begin with this manga? I was instantly drawn to this story by the cover alone. The characters drawn in Chinese clothing and their looks is so reminicent of early CLAMP for me. The entire manga has this classic older manga look and I am obessessing over it. It’s perfect for this facisnating story.
The plot itself is captivating. At the start of the story, we meet a young Shen Feng training under Xiao Xing. The scene transforms to some years later, where Shen Feng spares Xiao Xing’s life, and the two separate, never to see each other again. As the story goes on, we learn how it came to this and why their reunion is so bittersweet. I loved seeing Shen Feng longing to be closer to Xiao Xing but not knowing what to do. Theres a lot of pain behind their separation all those years ago and I’m hoping they can heal their wounds together.
There seem to be many invested parties and maybe even some Shen family members who would have something to gain from their father dying. As the chapters go on, so does the intrigue. At this point, I don’t know if I want to know how Shen Feng and Xiao Xing get closer or who murdered the father more. Either way, I am obsessed with this story so far and I can’t wait for the rest.
