REVIEW: Our Dining Table: Seconds, Please! Vol. 1

There is no better feeling than when a one-shot you loved gets a sequel! I nearly jumped for joy when I learned about Our Dining Table: Seconds, Please!. Although I didn’t review it, I loved Our Dining Table and, as always, was left wanting more. I’m so happy the creator was able to continue the story years later.

There’s just something to be said about stories like this that are pure sunshine in manga form. The story is low stakes, and it feels so good to read something so sweet. As much as I love toxic, intense stories, I also appreciate slower-paced feel-good romances.

About Our Dining Table: Seconds, Please!

Our Dining Table: Seconds, Please! is created by Mita Ori and is published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment. As indicated by the volume being numbered, this story will have more than one volume.

Even though the first volume ends with a timeskip, this sequel series picks up right after the events in the main story. It follows Yutaka and Minoru navigating their new relationship, while still sharing meals as a family. We are witness to their growing feelings, learn more about their backgrounds, meet new characters, and, of course, see the adorable Tane-kun grow.

My Thoughts

Our Dining Table: Seconds, Please! is the perfect follow-up to Our Dining Table. Yutaka and Minoru are so happy together now that they are officially boyfriends. But like any new relationship, there are definitely growing pains and new things to learn about your partner. We get to see Minoru and Yutaka hanging out more at Yutaka’s place, and Minoru’s dad making sure the guys get their alone time. We also learn more about Minoru’s past and his late mother.

The guys also deal with some not-so-pleasant feelings like jealousy with each other and disappointments outside of the relationship. Minoru’s about to graduate and is on the job hunt and Yutaka’s work life is changing too. It’s beautiful to see how all these changes make their relationship stronger. If Our Dining Table was the appetizer, Our Dining Table: Seconds, Please! is the entrée, and it’s so worth the wait.
