There is a famous VTuber who is nothing like his character on screen and the only one who knows the “real him” is his doting manager. But where do you draw the line between caring for someone professionally and wanting them for something more?
About My Noons and Midnights Are for You
My Noons and Midnights Are for You is a boys’ love manga series by LURIA, published in English by TOKYOPOP. In it, we are introduced to Mayo Suguwara. He’s a 24-year-old vtuber who’s essentially living a double life. His vtuber, Mahiro, is a virtual idol with millions of fans. Everyone loves Mahiro for being a bright and bubbly presence. The real Mayo couldn’t be any more different.
Mayo struggles with anxiety and depression, and the gap between his virtual persona and himself is suffocating. In another layer of conflict for Mayo, he’s been secretly in love with his manager, Mr. Ogino. Mr. Orgino dotes on Mayo, but Mayo’s convinced it is only because of “Mahiro.” When the doting turns physical, Mayo is filled with confusion and doubt.
My Thoughts
They will never make me stop loving inappropriate workplace relationships! The “we shouldn’t be doing this” of it all is so juicy, I can’t get enough. And in the professional vtubing world of My Noons and Midnights Are for You, this new type of industry makes it all the more exciting.
The relationship between Mayo and Mr. Ogino is intense. They both have feelings for each other, although Mayo can’t see that Mr. Ogino is crazy about him. Then, you add in the politics of VTubing management, and the situation between them feels so dire. As their physical relationship starts taking off, the professional one is put on the line. When you blur the lines between personal and professional, things are bound to get messy.
I absolutely adored Mayo as the main character! His struggles with anxiety and low self-esteem are all too relatable. The added layer of having a career where what he’s known for is the complete opposite of who he really is does take a toll on his mental health. Realistically, does a relationship fix your mental health? No, but I do appreciate that Mr. Ogino understands Mayo and looks after him when Mayo is unable to. He also meets Mayo where he is, and doesn’t try to force him to “overcome” his mental health.
I’m over the moon that this story will be continuing because I can’t get enough of Mayo and Mr. Ogino.
