Grab the tissues! Episode 6 of Digimon Beatbreak has many emotional moments and high paced fights, as the question of standing up or standing down is answered.
Self Sacrifice
After the high-stakes battle, Pandamon is severely hurt, and the crew retreats to the town. Boss Sasatake takes it upon himself to go to Keusuke Yuukai and the Koala-kai and offers his life; in exchange, the crew leaves the town alone. It is heart-wrenching to see the boss on his hands and knees, begging for his town’s safety. We can see just how much he loves his town and his people. He doesn’t want this fighting to carry on, for Pandamon to fight, and he’s willing to commit suidice to make it end.
The croonies end up beating up Boss Sasatake and returning him all bruised and battered. When Pandamon says he will take revenge, Boss Sasatake urges him not to and reminds him that the “chivalrous are here to protect the weak.” While Pandamon is conflicted by this, Tomoro is angry. “But I know that you’re wrong. Stop carrying the world on your shoulders.”
Making Decisions
A question Pandamon has to tackle if he’s going to listen to Boss Sasatake or take action with Glowing Dawn. Luckily, Pandamon decides to take action, accepting that means they are betraying the Boss’ teachings. As a result, Pandamon believes that by betraying the Boss, they will no longer have a parent-child relationship.
During the second battle with Astamon, Pandamon uses their remaining e-Pulse to go full throttle. They ends up almost dying, but Gekkomon shares some of their e-Pulse to keep Pandamon alive. Boss Sasatake comes through at the end, with Kyo, and tells Pandamon they will always be parent and child. Queue the tears!!
The highlight of this fight was seeing Glowing Dawn work together. Tomoro is all in and even worries about Gekkomon during a tense moment! I’m so proud of Tomoro and love how he’s growing to care for Gekkomon and the others. I can see that Tomoro is changing, even if it is little by little.
In the Shadows
In the backdrop of Digimon Beatbreak episode 6, we see Kyo working on his own. He confronts a ministry employee who is leaking personal information and working with Yuukari. This part intrigued me and I’m curious to see what the larger story behind everything is. Clearly, there’s some curruption happening behind the scenes, and it’s looking like the maybe the Ministry is not trustworthy.
Digimon Beatbreak is streaming on Crunchyroll, with new episodes on Sundays.
