The second episode of Digimon Beatbreak picks up right where we left off in the climax of Tomoro and Gekkomon’s fight with the hyena digimon. The cleaners we met at the beginning of episode one make an appearance, as they watch the situation and ultimately jump in. Afterwards, an Ultimate Digimon arrives and takes the Sapotamo containing Asuka’s e-pulse. After this standoff, Tomoro returns to the cleaner’s base and gets acquainted with everyone.

Setting the Scene
When it comes to Digimon as a franchise, usually every new season is a new universe with its own rules and lore. The second episode of Digimon Beatbreak serves as the explainer for how digimon exists in this universe. We learn that here, digimon are born from errors in Sapotama. When the digimon are born, if the owner of the Sapotama does not report to the Ministry, they will put a bounty on them. Then, cleaners will go and collect the digimon to collect the bounty.

After Tomoro returns with the crew, he learns they are a group of cleaners called Glowing Dawn. They were asked by Tomoro’s brother Asuka to watch over Tomoro. Tomoro also learns his brother is not dead, however, he is stuck in a comatose-like state because he lost his e-Pulse. Understandably, Tomoro is overwhelmed by everything and runs back home to think about things.
My Thoughts
With everything being so new, there’s a lot of mystery about this new digimon world. But instantly, I’m charmed by the Glowing Dawn group. All of them feel so real and charming. The way they quickly stepped in and took Tomoro and Gekkomon in says everything we need to know about them. We learn that Asuka was friends with them but I’m wondering what his true involvement was. It feels as if he has a bigger role in the digital world than we know so far. That may also explain why Tomoro e-Pulse is so special.

I really felt a lot of Tomoro in this episode. In a matter of 24 hours, his entire world is turned upside down. Not only did he think he lost his brother for good, he also feels responsible for what happened to Hitomi. Now he’s unlocked a digimon and is being targeted? Yeah, that is A LOT. As a result, we really haven’t gotten a good look at who he is. We got a quick glimpse of his personality in episode one but this episode was mostly him trying to grasp everything. I’m looking forward to him letting his guard down and growing close to Glowing Dawn and Gekkomon.

Digimon Beatbreak is streaming on Crunchyroll, with new episodes on Sundays.
