When the number one host takes on an assistant, they quickly take on the roles of “master” and “dog.” But this assistant is much more than he lets on, and is about to turn his “master’s” world upside down…
About Call Me Master
Call Me Master is a boys’ love manga by KedamaShiba and is published in English by TOKYOPOP. It takes place at Club de Rois, a host club where Akira Ichinose reigns as the number one host. The princesses love him, and when he’s not charming the ladies, he’s cleaning up after the rest of the guys.
One such guy is Tsukasa, who lost track of a princess and let her run off without paying her tab. Ichinose decides this guy is interesting and makes Tsukasa his assistant. If Tsukasa does a good job, Ichinose will pay the tab. Unfortunately for Ichinose, he has no idea this “dog” he’s adopted has some tricks up his sleeve.
My Thoughts
I’m a sucker for the dynamic where someone is the head honcho in their professional life and, behind the scenes, melts with the right person. Ichinose is used to being in charge, and he takes his job as a host seriously. Even though he knows he’s “selling a dream,” he treats every woman with the utmost care and respect. While he’s proud of being the number one host, he also has some insecurities under that pride. And then comes Tsukasa.
Because Tsukasa is taking charge in the bedroom, this allows for Ichinose to slowly let his guard down. First sexually, and then emotionally. It may not seem like much, but when someone is able to disarm you and lets you set down the burdens you’re carrying, it makes falling for them that much easier. Tsukasa is direct, rough around the edges, and set on playing along with Ichinose’s “master/dog” game. It may have started with this fun and sexy dynamic, but Tsukasa begins to fall for both sides of Ichinose.
Call Me Master is such a fun and sexy read. Tsukasa and Ichinose have the best chemistry, in and out of the bedroom. The playful switching of power dynamics makes each interaction between them so satisfying. This one is definitely being added to my “rereading all the time” pile.
