WCW- Yanitza Francisco

It feels like I have known Yanitza all my life (if my life started when I was fifteen.) We met through our sisters when we were in high school and immediately bonded. She was funny, charming, and very caring. Throughout the years our bond kept growing and now we are sisters. But she’s also more than that to me…

Yani has always been someone I looked up to. Yani is a hustler: someone who always goes for what she wants. Everything she touches turns to gold. She is an amazing person, professionally and personally. She is respected by her colleagues and loved by her family and friends. She is confident yet humble. She is a phenomenal young woman. Her drive is unmatched! Whenever times get tough, she’s someone I think of and keep going. I am thankful she agreed to an interview so I can show the world just how amazing she truly is.

How and where do you find motivation?

My motivation comes from my hunger to want to give my family a better life. Being raised by a single mother of two girls and recognizing all of her sacrifices makes me feel responsible to step up and relieve my mom of all of those responsibilities. It’s the love for my mother and sister that gets me up every morning.

How do you decide what move to make next? (school, work, etc.)

When I think about my “next move” I make sure to time it so that I can put my all into that project. Timing is key, I have worn myself out in the past and so I know the bandwidth that I can handle. I do not always know what exactly I want to do but it helps that I do know the type of woman I want to be and the kind of impact I am looking to make. That being said, anything I do, I make sure I go into it full force and my heart is always in it.

How do you maintain work/life/activities balance?IMG_8561

Balancing work/life is pretty tough. I am out of my house 12-13 hours a day between work and commuting, so my schedule varies every day. In order to get everything done, I stay up late nights and work on my personal business/activities over the weekends.

When do you think it is okay to break the rules?

When considering “breaking the rules” I always say just use your best judgment. I analyze everything a few times and make sure I have a way to “fix” the situation if breaking the rules goes wrong. Ultimately, as long as you stay true to yourself and you have a “fix it” plan to back yourself up-do it!

What values are you committed to?

I value: spirituality, family, integrity, love, loyalty, honesty, manners, respect, education and I expect myself to uphold those values just as much as I do those around me.

Any time you took a risk that paid off?

Two years ago, I packed my bags and moved to NYC. At the time, my sister had gotten a job offer in NY but I was still actively interviewing. I had a small saving and my original plan was to get a job offer and continue saving before making the scary move. The day my sister started packing, I just told myself I was never going to be ready for it. I put in my notice at work the next day, packed my bags, and left to NYC without employment. It was not easy, I lived off of my savings for two months before I got a job offer I accepted, but here I am 2 years later, working in the middle of Manhattan for the leading IT staffing and services firm in the nation. It was not easy but most certainly worth it!

Any lessons you had to learn the hard way?

I had to learn the hard way that no one in the world has you like you have you. I consider myself to have a loving; family, a circle of friends and the most amazing man as a life partner. However, at the end of the day, no one is perfect and everyone is trying to figure out this thing called life just as you are. You will have friends that you grow apart from and relationships that might not work out so make sure you never lose yourself in someone else. Loving your friends and partner is necessary but never compromise your love for yourself and the things that make you feel alive for anyone else. You and all of your needs come first!

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of graduating college and being a First Generation College student. Because of my credentials, I have been able to provide for my family and better their lives and my own. Nothing in the world feels as good as being able to help the people you love.

Who has influenced you the most?IMG_8553

Although I have many mentors and role models my biggest influence will always be my mom. From an early age, my mother led by example. She taught me to be independent, to never rely on anyone else and to give respect and demand respect as well. She is the strongest person I know, and I live to make her proud.

What books have most impacted your life?

The bible is by far the book that has impacted my life the most. In times where I have felt down and out, I turn to the bible and I find hope and courage in it. Salmo 91 or Psalm 91 I carry with me in my wallet at all times!

What do you want to be remembered for?

I want to be remembered for being a person full of love. I hope the day I am gone people will think of me and smile. I just want to make others feel worthy and empowered.
