Work In Progress: Four Month Check In

If you guys remember (or take a gander at my previous post New Year, New Me) I made some resolutions for 2016. I wanted to better myself for a healthier and more productive 2016. It has been 4 months and I wanted to update you guys on how some of my resolutions have been going. Now I can say 7/10 times, I do stick with things I set myself out to accomplish. (Except for the 104 times I say I quit drinking after a crazy, night out and never do.) Other than that though, I’m pretty true to my own word. As I mentioned in my original post, according to some fancy statistic thing, only 8% of people keep their New Year resolutions. So far, I am in that 8%. This year I made my resolutions things that meant a lot to me and would bring more happiness to my life. With these factors in mind, I wanted to stick to these resolutions.

  1. Resolution One:  Maintain a healthy lifestyle
    • This one has been the biggest resolution on my list. As I mentioned in my previous post, I had found myself very unhappy with my body and the way I was treating it. I got caught up in work, and my life responsibilities, ultimately leading to the serious neglect on my body. You already know what that did to me. So in January, I started attending the gym regularly with my lovely bestie Britnee, from Bitching with Britnee, in tow. I tried to go in the mornings before work, but if I didn’t go then, I would go after.

I won’t lie. I don’t hate the gym, I mostly enjoy it. But for some reason, I get VERY self-conscious at the gym. If you know me, I am anything but shy. However, in the gym that all changes. Suddenly, I think everyone is staring at me. Over in February, I changed gyms. My new gym has a lot of equipment for lifting, which is something I’ve really wanted to get into. However, they also have a lot of super hot and fit people. I mean everyone, is super fit and just gorgeous! As you can imagine, this raised my anxiety at an all-time high. However, I’ve overcome my fears and just do it. I put in my headphones; I blast my music, and tune everyone out. I will admit, I do feel silly trying new things, especially with lifting, but I just do it anyway. These people do not know me and really probably do not care about what I’m doing.

I didn’t do this, but I probably looked just as dumb

I also started a health program called Herbalife. This program has done wonders for me. Everything has been moving well. I didn’t weigh myself at the beginning of this year, but if I had to guess I was pushing almost 200 pounds. Currently, I’m around 187~186. I went early March with my sister to try on bridesmaid dresses, as was tightly fitting into a size 14. When I went last week to purchase mine, the 14 was too big and I was able to buy a size 12. I’m losing on average a pound a week, and my body is slowly changing.  I’m very proud of myself for sticking to my commitment to better my health, and my lifestyle. I am happy with my results and can’t wait to see where my body will be in the next 4 months.

  2. Resolution Two: Travel
    • So far, I went to Baltimore, MD for a wonderful birthday weekend. My Dominican Republic trip is booked for August. I have many more places on my list once the weather finishes warming up.

Me, in DR when I get there. Just replace the tequila with a Brugal.
  3. Resolution Three: Write 20 or more blogpost
    • I have writen 3 total (the poetry ones don’t count.) I’m getting there..
  4. Resolution Four: Be neater
    • I’m getting better..
  5. Resolution 5: Figure out that the @#$% I want to do
    • It is no secret that for the past 3 years, I have changed my mind on what I have wanted to do with myself and for a future career a few times. I was supposed to graduate with my degree in 2015 from a four-year institution. I did not graduate last year. I am currently not in school right now. Those statements would probably panic a lot of people, hell, sometimes it still panics me. (Pretty sure my parents are still freaking out.) However, if there is one thing I learned if that everyone’s plan is not the same. My life has changed so much, and I can’t imagine where I would be if it didn’t take the detour it has. I’m not ashamed of my past, or where I am now. I have a much clearer head now, and am in a better place mentally. I have finalized my plan to go back and finish my degree. The plan is already in motion. I’m thankful for my trips and stumbles. I have stood up a lot stronger, and on much firmer ground than before.
      7, 8

So that is my update for now. Almost 4 months out of 12 done. I’m no where near where I want to be, but I’m far from where I’ve come from. A continuous work in progress…
